When you write in about a calculation, include the numbers you entered — unit dimensions, stand height, wind speed, building height, and coastal or non-coastal. It saves a round trip.

Common Issues

Four things account for nearly every support email about this app.

Calculate isn't returning any results

The calculation runs on our server, so the app needs an internet connection. On a roof with poor signal this is the usual cause. Check that you have data or Wi-Fi and tap Calculate again.

If you have a good connection and it still fails, email us with the numbers you entered — that tells us whether it's a connection problem or something in the calculation.

Nothing happens when I tap Calculate

Check that every unit has both a height and a width filled in, and that stand height, wind speed, and building height all have values. A blank or non-numeric field will stop the calculation.

Decimals are fine — enter 12.5 rather than rounding.

Email Results doesn't open my mail app

The app hands your report to the built-in iOS Mail composer, which needs at least one mail account set up on the device. If you use Gmail or Outlook as a separate app without adding the account to iOS, Mail won't be available.

Add your account under Settings → Mail → Accounts, or use the share sheet the app offers instead — from there you can send the PDF through any app on your phone.

Print Results can't find my printer

Printing uses AirPrint, so the printer has to support AirPrint and be on the same Wi-Fi network as your device. In the field, the more useful option is often Save to Files or Save as PDF from the same print dialog.

Using the Calculator

Do I need an account?

No. There is no sign-up, no login, and no password. Open the app and start entering numbers.

How many units can I put on one stand?

Up to ten. Add each unit's height and width separately and the app totals the frontal area across all of them.

What units of measure does it expect?

Unit and building dimensions in inches and feet as labeled on each field, and design wind speed in miles per hour. Stand heights are the standard 18″, 24″, and 30″ frames.

What's the difference between coastal and non-coastal?

It sets the wind exposure category used in the calculation. Coastal sites face higher design pressures. If you aren't sure which applies to a given address, your local building department or the project's plans will specify it.

Which devices does the app run on?

iPhone and iPad running iOS 17 or later.

Does the app cost anything, or contain ads?

No purchases, no subscriptions, no advertising. See our privacy note below for what it does and doesn't collect.

Products & Code Approval

A question we get often enough to answer here.

Florida Product Approval FL42154

Our stands are Florida Building Code and Miami-Dade approved

F&L Aluminum Parts holds Florida Product Approval FL42154 for extruded aluminum frame stands for rooftop equipment, approved under the 2023 Florida Building Code, along with Miami-Dade Notice of Acceptance for our rooftop A/C stands. That approval covers the stands, brackets, and tie-down components we manufacture.

Important distinction

The approval above applies to our physical products. It does not make the app's output a stamped engineering calculation. The calculator is a sizing and selection aid — it helps you work out which of our approved stands and how many leg frames suit a given installation. Final structural sign-off for a specific job remains with the engineer of record.

For approval documents, drawings, or the current catalog, call or email us and we'll send what you need for your permit package.

Terms of Use

By using the AC Stand Calculator, you agree to the following.

The results are estimates

The app produces engineering estimates intended to assist qualified professionals with selecting and sizing AC unit stands. It is not a substitute for a site-specific structural design, a licensed engineer's judgment, or a permit-ready calculation package.

You are responsible for verification

You are responsible for confirming that any configuration you install satisfies the building code, wind-load requirements, and permitting rules in effect at the job site, and for having the installation reviewed and approved where the law requires it. Code requirements vary by jurisdiction and change over time.

Accuracy depends on your inputs

Results reflect the measurements you enter. Incorrect dimensions, an incorrect design wind speed, or the wrong exposure category will produce incorrect output, and the app cannot detect that.

Provided as is

The app is provided without warranties of any kind, express or implied, including any implied warranty of merchantability or fitness for a particular purpose. We do not warrant that the app will be uninterrupted or error-free, and the calculation requires an internet connection we do not control.

Limitation of liability

To the fullest extent permitted by law, F&L Aluminum Parts, Inc. is not liable for any indirect, incidental, special, or consequential damages arising from use of the app or reliance on its output. Nothing here limits any liability that cannot be limited under applicable law.

Changes

We may update the app and these terms as products, codes, and calculations change. Continuing to use the app after an update means you accept the revised terms.

Governing law

These terms are governed by the laws of the State of Florida, without regard to its conflict of laws rules.

Privacy

The app has no accounts and collects very little. The measurements you enter are sent to our calculation service to compute your results; your name and email, if you enter them, stay on your device and are used only to fill in the report and pre-address the email you send yourself.

Read the full privacy policy for the exact detail on what is transmitted and what is not.
